The art
of Lisa Falk
Lisa
Falk began her artistic career working as a cartoonist,
having obtained a degree in science and a diploma in
commercial art and graphic design. Following her move
from King Island to the Tasmanian mainland in 1991,
she began creating drawings of the state's natural areas
and wilderness, developing a unique style that has become
the hallmark of her work.
Lisa works with studio quality coloured pencils layered
on 100% cotton, acid-free paper. It is an unforgiving
process allowing little margin for error, since erasure
becomes virtually impossible as the colours are built
up to the resulting rich depths. Each drawing takes
several months to complete.
Her work has a strong philosophical component, and the
creative process is a meditative one that involves both
self-inquiry and self-discovery. The result is a body
of work of exceptional virtuosity, clarity and power.
